LED R20 Bulbs
Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps have become the standard for artificial lighting because they are more energy efficient than fluorescent lighting and incandescent bulbs. LED lights generate less heat, illuminate quickly without a warm-up phase and give off a softer light. LED R20s are among the most commonly used LED lighting products for many reasons.
What Are LED R20 Bulbs?
R20 bulbs are standard reflector bulbs. The inside of these bulbs are painted with a reflective coating to direct light forward. Due to this feature, R bulbs will put out approximately double the illumination, expressed in foot-candles, on the directional spot while using less power. The number 20 represents the bulb diameter measured in eighths of an inch. Thus, LED R20 bulbs are 2.5 inches in diameter.
R20 bulbs are available in different wattages. The base of these bulbs fit into standard sockets, making it easy to replace incandescent and fluorescent bulbs with LED R20 lamps. They can be used indoors and outdoors as floodlights or directional lighting for specific spaces. Additionally, these bulbs are available as dimmable lamps with the option to reduce lighting from 10 to 90 percent maximum lighting capacity.
The expected useful life of LED lights is anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 hours. This means an LED R20 bulb that is in use eight hours a day can last for 17 years. The useful life refers to the point at which the lamp has diminished to 70 percent of its original lumens. This being the case, LED R20 light bulbs are useful in hard-to-reach corners where bulb replacement may require special equipment. Use these lamps as directional lights for signage, landscape and security features.
